What is a Pedal Car?

A pedal car is a versatile kid's toy that exercises the youngster's growing muscles while providing hours of fun.

A pedal car's body resembles a normal car, except that the driving power is generated by the occupant sitting within the car and pushing a pair of pedals on the floor of the car.

Originally, pedal cars were designed for actual on-road travel; but with the advent of mechanized transportation, miniature versions of these cars were made solely for kid's enjoyment or adult recreation.

Pedal cars, also called quadracycles, were designed in varied shapes and sizes, with the only common feature being a seat, pedals and four wheels.

The outer bodies of some pedal cars were designed to replicate the looks of famous real cars, making the kids feel he/she has a mini version of ‘Daddy's car'.

These cars have a sturdy body that is able to withstand the typically harsh treatment meted out by the kids.

The seating angle, the distance between the steering wheel and the seat and the height of the steering wheel are judiciously arranged to provide maximum comfort for the child riding the car.

Additionally, the pedals are also placed in the most apt position whereby connectivity with the wheels ensures maximum mechanical efficiency, and thus requiring less energy to be expended by the kid when riding the pedal car.

Considering the young age of the riders, pedal cars are designed with safety being one of the paramount considerations. With a lower centre of gravity, the chances of the car toppling over are minimized. Also, the rubberized tires and the suspension allow the vehicle to smoothly move over relatively bumpy terrain too.
